About The Founder
Candace Jarkow – Founder/CEO
I was very lucky to have grown up with dogs, cats, horses, ducks and bunnies. And no, I didn’t live on a farm (though my Dad’s horses did), I’m a born and raised New Yorker who grew up in Westchester and had parents who supported my love of animals. I always had a strong desire to help any animal I could and remember thinking I could save every one of them. I set out to rescue anything I could. I would grab my red wagon armed with band- aids, gauze, tape and Neosporin and set out on mt daily mission. Usually the animals I found were unsalvageable, but I tried none the less and was often seen at the local vet’s office with a towel wrapped animal who needed real help. It was from this place in my heart that turned into a pre-veterinary education at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA. and a vet tech license from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. I have lived in NYC for the last 30 years and take a lot of pride in caring for my own dogs, juggling city life, kids and a career. Over the years I veered in a different direction professionally, but I always kept the sentiment close to my heart by donating my time and raising funds for a few amazing charities like the ASPCA, the Humane Society and local shelters .
I joined the Board of Dylan’s Candy BarN, a dog adoption based charity and served on a long standing committee for Green Chimneys, a residence based farm created to rehabilitate at-risk children and animals . That said, in the last year and a half I realized that I desperately needed to get back to my roots and pursue my dream of working with dogs. My ultimate goal is to create my own dog sanctuary where any homeless pup can find their forever home with us. I am currently working on that and will keep you posted...
I created Hound Honey for those who love their dogs as much as I do.
I know that it can be difficult sometimes to handle all of the responsibilities included in being a pup parent, but if you’re like me, you take that role very seriously. We’d all love to spend every minute with our dogs , catering to their needs and making sure they have the best of everything. That’s an unrealistic goal, so I decided my role would be to give your dogs the next best thing. Whether we’re finding the right providers or caring for them directly, our Hound Honey team will ensure that your dog is treated like one of our own and I am personally humbled to do so.
